On the road again

It was an easy trip down. Minus the fact that I get to drive for 12 hours and play tag with big rig drivers who have little patience with RVs. Truck drivers are paid to drive fast and zip to their destination quickly by getting everybody else out of their way. The more trips, the more pay I guess. The system encourages it. Although they are supposed to keep log books and "rest." After having a truck sneak up on my right trying to angle into my lane ahead of me, I punched it and let the big truck get buried in a cloud of black diesel smoke - which with the new fuel injectors requires serious punching to the floor.

The truck's new computer system tells me all sorts of information from boost to temps to fuel economy as well as the temperature of the air at the intake manifold (not that I know why I need to know this information). But it is pretty cool anyway. So, I can control the temps in the turbo which I was told is important when towing. Of course the ATV trailer isn't very heavy unless you add the cord of wood Steve managed to fit in the bed of the truck.

It's the beginning of our eight year in Arizona. This morning we are sitting in our membership campground of Emerald Cove. It's cold in the desert this year. This morning it was 40 degrees. And of course, the electric side of the Aquahot (our heating/hot water system) isn't working. So, we have to turn on the diesel burner and treat our neighbors to the smell of burning diesel and the roar of a jet engine. Luckily, the burner doesn't stay very long (it doesn't need to at 50,000 btu). We've made arrangements to get it fixed in Quartzsite in a week.

We've been here since Saturday when we arrived from our overnight stop at Boron. Lovely Boron. It makes Needles and Barstow look like Serrano. Home of the 20 mule team borax mine. It's got a great visitor center (or so we were told) but we didn't get the opportunity to visit. And the campground was, well, not so bad. Good hookups and cheap but the neighborhood was ugly - not fear for your life ugly - just "welfare" ugly. (We have experienced the "fear for your life ugly - lock the door" parks in the past).

Yesterday we found a couple in the park to play pickleball. So, we played in the morning (cold... windy) and later in the afternoon when it was quite nice. The court is okay but there's a learning curve with the outdoor ball used in the game. We usually play in a gym with a different kind of ball that doesn't bounce as much. It's so easy to hit the darn thing out of the court. And there's no fence... so there's the exercise of chasing balls to counteract the happy hour beer in the pool bar ($1).

Today we are going to travel to Shea Road for a quad ride this afternoon - after it warms up! We are saving the nearby riding for when our friends are here and trailering isn't an option. Shea road has some great riding including a "grand canyon."

That's it for today. I really need to get moving.

It's time to revive this blog (from 2016 apparently!) I've been planning to do this sometime over the three months since we first left...
